Basic Throws (the most important ones)
The Backhand
The backhand throw is the one most people think of when they think of throwing a frisbee. It is a simple throw where you swing your arm forward across your body leading with the back of your hand.
The Flick
The flick will be the most common throw you see in any frisbee game. As the name suggests all the power in this throw comes from a flicking motion you make with your wrist. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use your arm with this throw. Opposed to the backhand the flick involves the palm of your hand facing the field.
Intermediate Throws
The Hammer
The hammer is the first overhead throw. Where a flick and backhand are supposed to go around the right and left of the defender, hammer throws are meant to be thrown over the defender. Unlike more common throws a hammer throw will result in the disc flying upside down, thus it is not an ideal throw, especially when you have a lot of time.
O.Is and I.Os
An O.I and an I.O stand for outside in and inside out respectively. They are either thrown as a flick or a backhand and are used to help you and your intended target get around and beat out the defense. Once you have the basic throws down, this technique is quite fun to play around with when tossing.
Advanced Throws (previous throws mastered)
The Thumber
A thumber is to a hammer like a flick is to a backhand. It is a throw that is supposed to be thrown over defenders. Upon release, the disc will fly upside down. What makes it advanced compared to the hammer's intermediate ranking is its difficulty to throw.
The Scoober
Of all the throws game acceptable to throw in-game the scoober should be the last one learned. Its main purpose is to quickly get a throw off and really create distance while swinging the disc across the field. The throw is like a hammer thrown more horizontally, but should not be utilized in a game unless you are very good with all other throws.
